The new Extreme Pita is set to open later this quarter at 523 Med Court, just off of Stone Oak Parkway on the city’s far North Side. It joins the inaugural store at One UTSA Circle — on the Northwest Side campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Using pita bread, a more calorie-conscious sandwich staple, Extreme Pita then stuffs these wraps with good-for-you-goodies like grilled chicken, grilled steak and such toppings as humus, BBQ sauce and sweet chili thai sauce. All pitas are grilled in front of the customers — using water instead of the more calorie-laden item, oil.
The Missauga Ontario-based chain is also looking to roll out several more sites in the Alamo City, according to Ray Zandi, vice president of U.S. development for Extreme Pita.
“There is a real opportunity for us to carve out a niche market in San Antonio,” he says. “With a large population that has a sizeable segment tending toward health consciousness, San Antonio is a natural fit for our vision of inspiring healthy living.”
Extreme Pita made its debut in 1997. From its roots in the country to the north, the chain has grown to boast several stores in the U.S. — in states such as California, South and North Dakota, Connecticut, Louisiana, and of course Texas.
In addition to San Antonio, Extreme Pita also has a Texas presence in Austin, Houston and Sugar Land.
