Home / Press & News /IN THE NEWSJune 2007 - Glendora Community News, Glendora, CATasty and Healthy Finally Unite!! There is a new sizzle in town! Extreme Pita a Canadian based fast food franchise recently opened its first Los Angeles County location 865 W. Route 66, Unit B at the corner of Barranca And Route 66 in Glendora opposite Starter Brothers.
Two brothers Alex and Mark Rechichi started the concept in Canada 10 years ago and have now achieved over 50 million in sales with 200 stores open, 20 of which are in the U.S., with 20 more planned for the next 12 months. This up and coming healthy food franchise caters to all different palates with a menu of Salads, vegetarian and non vegetarian pita pocket options including grilled meats and a delicious array of sauces. You can also have a thin crusted pita pizza with less guilt-laden calories and artery damage than a regular cheese pizza. All pita pockets are wrapped in a cleverly designed spill-proof, perforated wrap paper for the person on the go. The menu has has a Mediterranean feel including a choice of any healthy veggies from the new USDA food pyramid guide, and sauces such as Hummus, Tzatziki, Bistro, and Chipotle mayo.
This is as good as it gets without sacrificing flavor; everything is fresh grilled, with less carbs per bite than the usual Subway or Quizno's sub. At the order point they have posted a Nutritional chart for customer consideration before making a menu choice and repeat customers are excited about the taste and choice of offerings with many pitas having 6 gms of fat or less, and no trans fats insight. Customers flock in from Jenny Craig, Weight Watcher's, Curves, Bally's, and 24 hr Total Fitness, as well as the general local population around the store. AP and Citrus college students rave about it and the daily specials offered. If you care about what you eat, you have to have an Extreme Pita experience. As soon as you walk in the door, you will know you are in the right eatery.
"The pita bread in thin, Lebanese style, and tastes like bread. It is not thick and doughy, neither does it taste chewy and undercooked like a flour tortilla wrap", said Jose. Pita bread has been around since Biblical times and has dominated the Mediterranean for centuries; Extreme Pita has taken it one stage further with it's unique 50% white and wheat blend.
Owner and Chamber of Commerce member, Jose Del Rio, has worked hard to achieve this milestone; with the assistance of franchising veteran Fayaz Karim, his Area Developer, they had the store up and running in less than 8 weeks. Future plans include setting up 30 stores in the next 5 years. There is a great opportunity here for prospective franchisees looking for multi-unit possibilities in a protected territory, under the watchful eyes of Karim who brings 20 years franchise development experience to the concept. The store is open 7 days a week from 10:30 am to 9:30 pm. Fayaz Karim can be contacted at 949-253-4610, fayazk@extremepita.com
