You're hungry, in a hurry, and demand healthy food.

Life in the fast lane doesn't have to mean life in the "fast food" lane. For some reason, the likes of McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's and Taco Bell seem to have claimed the term "fast food" for their own. Traditionally, upstart companies tend to incorporate many of the business philosophies, trends and products of larger well-established companies as that of their own. Times are changing. With the increase in health-conscious consumers, many of the industry leaders now carry a 'healthy' menu. One company that has taken the health-crazed trend to a higher level is Extreme Pita. Unlike many other fast food outlets, Extreme Pita has an entire menu targeting those with healthy, active lifestyles, not just a few side dishes. Before eating healthy exploded into what it is today, the Extreme Pita was born. After its inception in February 1997, the company soon realized the overwhelming demand for their fresh, healthy and extremely tasty pita. The only solution to this problem was to give the public what they asked for-expansion. It has currently developed over 62 stores across Canada all the while continuing to expand its fresh, healthy concept.

Now, in 2002, Extreme Pita continues to experience rapid expansion across Canada and the demand alone in the Nation's Capital is overwhelming. Ottawa has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the country. And the Extreme Pita is bringing in a whole new wave of fast, healthy sandwiches. Extreme Pita currently has four locations in full operation, and another three are under construction, two of which, (intersection of Merivale Road & Royden Road, and Tenth Line & Innes Road), will be opening this month. Extreme Pita also plans to have four more locations added to the list by year end. Not bad for a concept that just entered the Ottawa market less than three years ago.

The Extreme Pita takes the build-your-own healthy sandwich idea that made Subway a success and takes it one step further with sautéed meats and vegetables and gourmet additions like feta cheese and tzatziki sauce.

Just a few short years ago, two young Canadian entrepreneurs were told that " their pita store would never fry, I mean fly." That was back when fried chicken and greasy burgers were a hot commodity. Now-a-days, consumers not only want the premium benefits of fast food such as convenience and affordability, but demand freshness, greater taste and nutritional value.

Extreme Pita offers a wide variety of pitas to choose from including 23 pitas with 4 grams of fat or less. Compare this to Extreme Pita's major competitors; Subway, who offer 7 subs containing fewer than 6 grams of fat, or even Mr. Sub, who offer 12 sandwiches with less than 6 grams of fat. Extreme Pita feels no threat from their more established and widely known competitors. Why would they? Extreme Pita may target the same market, but they further satisfy the demand of the active consumer, and by far beat the competitors with their broader selection and high quality toppings.

When the big guys caught on to how powerful a healthy sandwich could be they reinvented the norm. The larger companies are now using the smaller guy's ideas to stay fresh and afloat! When time is short, hunger is high, and better nutrition sense wants a piece of the action, there is only one answer; Extreme Pita. 'Fast food' restaurants are our last resort.
